| Golf Carts
The first electric golf cart was produced by Merle Williams from Reading, California, using knowledge he attained from electric cars which were produced during World War Two gasoline rationing period. They arrived at the first courses in 1951. E-Z-GO and LEKTRO began production in 1954 and 1955 respectively. In 1963 Harley Davidson started making golf carts. In 1971 gas golf carts came upon the scene, and were an instant hit. Today we see both electric and gas golf carts in use on the links.
A golf cart can accommodate two golfers and two golf bags on a platform at the rear of the cart. Many carts have a roof and front windshield. Places with cold weather see carts with enclosures. These are usually made of flexible heavy duty plastic and have a door with a window on each side that closes snugly with Velcro Propane gas "cart heaters" have also been available in the last few years. To turn the cart into a utility vehicle, there are options available like mounting the cargo box in the rear. Also by having a rear facing seat, the golf cart can turn into a small vehicle which seats three passengers and the driver. Monster carts are brightly and decoratively painted, and have any number of option add-ons like raiser kits, racy wheel kits, lights front and rear, custom bodies and interiors readily available and many other features and options.
So as we’ve seen from the invention of golf carts, they’ve evolved and taken on extended features and options.
